Specifications

Once Weathered Coping

Once Weathered

A once weathered coping slate means the slate has a gradient to one edge of the slate. These are mostly used around parapet walls, when the water runs off to the back edge and then falls behind the wall. When using this style of coping slate you will usually require an overhang with a drip groove cut into the underside, we recommend 6mm fluted groove 25mm in per side to create your overhang.

Twice Weathered Coping 3

Twice Weathered

A twice weathered coping stone has a peak (at the centre) that allows water to run off to both sides. This coping slate also needs to have an overhang and usually drip groove cut into the underside, we recommend 6mm fluted groove 25mm in per side to create your overhang. This style is most commonly used on garden walls, and gable ends.

Plain Straight Coping

Plain Weathered

A plain weathered coping would be the most cost effective. This slate coping would be made with no weathering this type of wall coping can be fixed level or you can fix the slate on a slight angle by adding a thick bed of mortar to one side. Coping slate will usually require an overhang with a drip groove cut into the underside, we recommend 6mm fluted groove 25mm in per side to create your overhang.

Quality

Slate is acid and alkali resistant this means it’s is chemically inert, it will not change colour or break up after time like most man made material, it’s also non-porous and resistant to all weather conditions this makes our slate the best choice for capping or copping your wall.

When fitted in the correct method it will last a life time.

Profiled or straight

Our coping slate come in three types: twice weathered, once weathered and plain straight option. Each product is available in thicknesses from 30mm 40mm 50mm 60mm & 75mm we also can produce 100mm thickness on request. We recommend adding an overhang on each side a minimum of 25mm this will allow enough overhang to accommodate a drip 6mm groove this will prevent water from returning to your wall.

Fixing & Joints

Our slate should be fixed with a traditional sand and cement mortar bed, we recommend that a slurry mix should be painted on the back prior to fixing this will allow the slate to bond to your wall safely and securely (see slurry mix method) we also supply drill holes for cramp anchors on request.

We recommend that each piece should be fixed with premium silicone like OTTO Seal S70 in either a anthracite or black colour, it’s a natural stone silicone guaranteed not to cause any migratory staining on natural stone with excellent weathering and ageing resistance. Suitable for use outdoors and UV resistant.
